Recap of Fed CBI meetings

Post by Dollarsign »

Greetings, this is a test for me. I will attempt to post items that deal with CBI meetings from the end of last year, to February of this year.

At this point, statements about revaluation are coming out almost daily, when there was a time it was never mentioned at all.

I have 32 shots of documents like this, and the file size on some is too large to post, but you get the gist. These meetings were at the highest levels, and took place within a period of 4 weeks. It is very telling that participants at such a senior level stopped everything, cleared their schedules, and flew to D.C. to discuss this single subject. At one point the CBI was in a meeting with the US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, and IMF/World Bank leadership. President Biden and the Prime Minister are going to have a meeting at the White House in the coming weeks, possibly to make an announcement. My guess is because it's the 20th anniversary of the removal of Saddam, it will be about the progress made since then, which would include changes in the economy of Iraq among other things. Additionally, if you check the CBI site and click banknotes in circulation, you'll find that the family of notes was initially printed in 2003, again in 2013, which means that 2023 would be the next reprint. With all the meetings held earlier this year, the reprint would be lower denominations, at whatever the current market rate will be. The revaluation is due. According to the "White Paper for Economic Reform", which is the guide for this whole thing, the CBI will have to "manage the impact of the appreciation of the real exchange rate".

The website of the United Nations Security Council reported that the Council will convene a closed briefing and consultation session on Iraq this afternoon, Baghdad time. The session will address several issues, including budgetary matters, corruption, unemployment, economic and financial reforms, and the relationship between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), with a focus on the security situation.
